The Yobe State Police Command has taken a suspect into custody for allegedly stealing a commercial tricycle after drugging its driver. According to police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident took place on July 23 in Potiskum.
The suspect reportedly boarded the vehicle as a passenger, requesting a trip to Dubai, Garin Dala. During the transit, the individual gave the 25-year-old operator a substance that caused the driver to lose consciousness. The suspect then escaped with the tricycle. The victim was later transported to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum and is currently recovering.
Authorities successfully tracked down the suspect and recovered the stolen vehicle at a security checkpoint in the Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State through inter-agency intelligence cooperation. Yobe Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, praised the officers for their efforts and ordered an investigation to find potential accomplices. He also warned commercial drivers to remain vigilant, advising them to avoid accepting food, drinks, or medication from strangers and to be wary of passengers offering unusually high fares.
