Two suspected robbers have been apprehended in Minna metropolis and are currently in police custody in Niger State for stealing a victim’s mobile phone.
The suspects were arrested by officers from the Kpakungu Police Division on October 31, 2024.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects were caught following a report from the victim, who had been robbed of his phone.
“On receipt of the report, the police operatives of the division, with credible intelligence, arrested two suspects in connection with the crime, ” he stated.
The suspects have been identified as Azifi Lawal, also known as Maka, 25, and Abubakar Saidu, also known as Yaro, both from the Soje B and Gbeganu areas of Minna.
SP Wasiu Abiodun explained that the victim had boarded a tricycle from the Gidan-Kwano area to Dama, where he encountered two other passengers. While traveling near Dama, the two passengers conspired, attacked the victim, and robbed him of his mobile phone before fleeing into a nearby bush.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the crime and confessed to their involvement in other similar robberies.
“They mentioned one Mubarak of Dutsen-Kura area as part of their gang members. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to recover the stolen phones and arrest the fleeing suspect, ” Abiodun further stated.
