A high-ranking financial manager for Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to the Nigerian military. The individual, accompanied by his two sons, turned himself in to soldiers from the 3 Battalion of the 24 Task Force Brigade, operating under the Joint Task Force North East ‘Operation HADIN KAI’.
Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer for the task force, confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, near the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia corridor in Borno State. While the official’s identity remains protected, he was identified as the lead finance operative for the ISWAP cell located in Jubillaram.
Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 from the defector. Military officials believe this surrender indicates significant internal collapse within the terrorist organization, following recent intensified ground and air strikes. The individual is currently being processed for intelligence, which the military expects will assist in dismantling remaining militant networks.
This event follows a surge in defections, with roughly 46 other insurgents and their families recently turning themselves in. The Theatre Command has renewed its call for remaining combatants to abandon the insurgency and utilize government-backed non-kinetic options, while simultaneously requesting public assistance in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
