Wrexham’s maiden journey in European competition concluded following a 4-1 loss to Latvian club Riga FC during the second round of Women’s Champions League qualifying. The Adran Premier titleholders initially held a 1-0 advantage at the Racecourse thanks to an early strike by Lili Jones, her second in the tournament.
However, the visitors shifted the momentum shortly after halftime. Minami Oi leveled the score with a header, and Kumba Brima quickly followed up to put Riga FC in the lead. The Latvian side, who remained unbeaten throughout their 2025 domestic season, subsequently extended their advantage with goals from Laura Kallase and Shiori Kato. This victory secured Riga’s spot in the next stage of the competition.
Despite the eventual defeat, Wrexham started the match with promise. Following their 4-2 win against Armenian champions FC Pyunik earlier in the week, the Welsh side controlled much of the first half, coming close to extending their lead through efforts from Faye Knox and Natasha Thomas. Ultimately, the technical quality and clinical finishing of the Latvian champions proved too much for the hosts to overcome.
