Soldiers under Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully liberated five family members of Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, after a violent militant raid on his home. Officials are currently working to locate the chairman himself.
Reports confirm that armed men invaded the chairman’s home early Saturday. During the chaos, three security personnel—two police officers and a local vigilante—were killed, alongside one civilian. The chairman’s brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, also suffered injuries in the struggle.
Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force in the North West, stated that troops arrived during the assault and engaged the gunmen in a heavy shootout. This forced the attackers to leave behind the chairman’s wife, mother, two children, and a relative while fleeing into the bush with the chairman.
Authorities have since launched a wide-scale rescue mission involving the military, police, state security services, and community guards. The Command is utilizing all available assets to secure the chairman’s return. They have urged the public to stay composed and share any useful intelligence with security agencies as they pursue the perpetrators.
