Osun PDP Senatorial Nomination Conflict Intensifies

Ibraheem Adekunle is contesting Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi’s claim to the PDP senatorial ticket for Osun Central, citing legal inconsistencies regarding Fadeyi’s party affiliation.

A new internal conflict has surfaced within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Party member Ibraheem Adekunle asserts that he is the legitimate candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 elections. This statement comes after incumbent Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi declared he had returned to the party and secured the nomination.

Speaking to the press in Osogbo, Adekunle rejected Fadeyi’s claim. He insisted his own nomination was the result of a valid primary election. Adekunle pointed out that reports suggest Fadeyi received a waiver to join the PDP on May 8, 2026, yet participated in an APC senatorial primary ten days later. He argued that it is legally impossible to hold membership in two political parties simultaneously.

Adekunle maintained that his name had already been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the PDP following the completion of their primary process. He stated that any attempt to substitute his name would be met with legal action. Expressing faith in the PDP’s National Working Committee, Adekunle emphasized his intent to protect his mandate through official channels.
