A 54-year-old laborer passed away on Friday during renovations at Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium, according to reports from Catalan police. This marks the initial fatality at the site since the current overhaul project kicked off in June 2023.
Paramedics arrived at the arena following the incident, but were unable to revive the man. Officials suggest he succumbed to a severe impact injury. An inquiry regarding the circumstances of his death is currently in progress.
The extensive reconstruction of the stadium, which started three years ago, has faced several delays due to permit issues and disputes regarding workplace conditions. Crews are currently prioritizing the installation of a structural compression ring intended to hold up the future roof. Completion of the full project is anticipated by early 2028.
