Maresca Views Taking Over from Guardiola at Manchester City as an Honor

Enzo Maresca has officially begun his tenure as Manchester City manager, calling the chance to succeed Pep Guardiola a true privilege.

Enzo Maresca expressed his gratitude on Friday, describing the opportunity to lead Manchester City after Pep Guardiola as a significant privilege.

Maresca, who previously managed Chelsea and Leicester, takes the reins following Guardiola’s departure. The Catalan manager concluded his illustrious decade at the Etihad Stadium after securing 20 major trophies.

During his introductory press conference, the Italian coach noted his deep respect for Guardiola, whom he regards as the premier manager of the last quarter-century. While acknowledging the scale of the task, Maresca emphasized that the opportunity represents an exciting challenge.

Historically, clubs often decline following the departure of highly successful leaders, as seen with Manchester United after Alex Ferguson’s 2013 retirement. However, Maresca remains optimistic about City’s future success. He highlighted the club’s organizational stability, noting that employing only three managers over 17 years is an exceptional track record that fosters confidence in continued excellence.
