Bauchi State authorities have taken 20-year-old Rabi Abubakar into custody following an incident where she reportedly threw hot water on her pregnant co-wife during a household argument. The assault, which took place in Daba Village, allegedly resulted in the death of the victim’s newborn son.
The confrontation occurred on July 17, 2026. The 30-year-old victim, suffering from extensive burns, was transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital. She delivered a baby boy on July 19, but the infant passed away shortly after birth due to burn-related complications. The mother remains hospitalized but is reported to be in stable condition.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib stated that the incident was reported to local officers on July 22. After an investigation, the suspect was located and detained. During initial questioning, she admitted to the act. The case is being handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for formal charges.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, denounced the violence, calling it inexcusable. He emphasized that the command is committed to a thorough legal process. Furthermore, he urged community members to handle family disputes without resorting to violence and to alert law enforcement when domestic abuse occurs.
