Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate, has asserted that citizens are entitled to know if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu previously forfeited funds linked to narcotics to American authorities. This demand follows claims from the Presidency that Atiku spent significant funds on lobbyists regarding his own legal status in the United States.
In his response, Atiku characterized the Presidency’s focus on personal grievances as a strategy to avoid transparency. He argued that the administration relies on insults because it lacks factual rebuttals to public inquiries. According to Atiku, questioning details found in public records is not an assault on national sovereignty, but rather a necessary exercise in accountability.
The former Vice President stated that the public can distinguish between genuine explanations and political distraction. He emphasized that attempting to mask the lack of disclosure with nationalism does not make the inquiries go away.
