The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed concerns regarding its survival, asserting that the party will certainly appear on the ballot for all 2027 general elections. Despite an ongoing leadership dispute, the party’s Interim National Working Committee (INWC) held a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja to consolidate its strategy and evaluate a recent court ruling secured by the Board of Trustees.
Chief Tanimu Turaki, the INWC Chairman, maintained a defiant tone throughout the assembly. He stated that the current internal friction is significantly less challenging than the 2016 leadership crisis involving Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, which the party successfully resolved. Turaki emphasized that the PDP will compete in every contest, from the presidential race down to the state legislative seats.
Addressing the gathering, former Niger State Governor Dr. Babangida Aliyu encouraged party members to remain loyal, labeling defectors as nomadic politicians who prioritize personal interests over collective goals. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome these obstacles, drawing parallels to previous periods of adversity that ultimately strengthened the organization.
Tony Aziegbemi, speaking for the Forum of PDP State Chairmen, criticized those who have turned against the party despite benefiting from its platform in the past. He urged supporters to stay committed, suggesting that while the party has made mistakes in the past, it remains focused on reform and future success despite external pressure and internal disagreements.
