Manchester City has officially secured the services of Elliot Anderson, bringing the 23-year-old midfielder over from Nottingham Forest on a five-year contract that extends until June 2031. Although the deal was initially structured to set a new British transfer record at 116 million pounds, it has since been surpassed by Morgan Rogers’ 117 million pound move to Chelsea.
Anderson expressed his immediate interest in the transfer, describing the chance to play for such a prominent club as a pivotal career move. He aims to prove himself at the highest level of competitive football and is eager to earn a regular spot in the squad under new manager Enzo Maresca, who took the helm following Pep Guardiola’s decade-long tenure.
The midfielder’s rise has been rapid since his 35 million pound move from Newcastle United to Nottingham Forest in 2024. During his time at Forest, he played a vital role in their seventh-place league finish and their historic Europa League semi-final run. His performance, highlighted by league-leading statistics in touches and duels, also earned him a permanent spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad during the recent World Cup.
City director of football Hugo Viana praised the acquisition, highlighting Anderson’s physical energy, passing ability, and dedication. Viana stated that the club views the young midfielder as a developing talent capable of becoming a complete player within their system. The deal, which also saw off interest from Manchester United, represents a club-record investment for City, surpassing the previous 100 million pound record set by Jack Grealish.
