Robinson Ewor, the former acting leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, asserts that Governor Siminalayi Fubara effectively ceded authority to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during the period of emergency rule in the state. Ewor shared these observations during an appearance on the Arise Television program Morning Show this past Thursday.
His comments were prompted by Governor Fubara’s public endorsement of an APC candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. Ewor contends that this support is merely a confirmation of an existing dynamic, arguing that Fubara had already relinquished influence to the FCT Minister following the political turmoil of the previous year. He suggests that the governor’s recent public stance lacks novelty as the surrender of authority occurred during formal negotiations held during the state of emergency.
Ewor further criticized the governor for failing to be transparent with his political base. He noted that although Fubara reportedly granted the FCT Minister control over the administration of the 23 local government areas during their mediation, the governor did not properly inform his supporters of this arrangement, choosing instead to maintain a facade of independence.
