The Anambra State Police Command asserts that the murder of four herders and several cattle on Tuesday was a premeditated scheme designed to incite ethnic conflict. According to the force’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, initial findings suggest the assault at Agu-Ifite on July 21, 2026, was specifically orchestrated to disrupt regional harmony.
Ikenga stated that the attackers sought to undermine the state’s long-standing peace. However, he commended local residents for rejecting efforts to promote division, noting that their commitment to unity has hindered the criminals’ ultimate goal of sparking unrest.
Authorities have initiated an active search for those responsible, utilizing evidence provided by survivors and informants. Security forces are currently conducting focused operations to capture the culprits. The police have requested that the public stay alert and share any relevant details, while reaffirming their dedication to safeguarding all residents regardless of their background.
