Authorities in Niger State have taken two individuals into custody in Minna following the discovery of three toy handguns and 16 ATM cards in their possession. The state police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, reported that the arrest occurred on July 14 at 11:00 p.m. A surveillance team from the Tudun-Wada Division stopped the suspects in a tricycle near the M.I. Wushishi Estate junction. While the men alleged that the bank cards were picked up while scavenging in Lagos, investigators suspect the fake firearms were utilized to intimidate and rob local residents. Further inquiries are currently underway.
In a separate operation, the same police division targeted the Sabon-Titi region of Tunga, Minna, resulting in the capture of five suspected thugs. Officers seized multiple weapons, including two knives, three cutlasses, and various dangerous implements, along with a supply of cannabis. The detainees stated that these items were intended for use during a Maulud event and acknowledged their involvement in recurring confrontations with youths from Tunga-Maje. All five remain detained as the police continue their investigation.
