Law enforcement officials in Imo State successfully captured 12 suspects, confiscated an array of illegal firearms, and secured the release of three kidnapping victims. According to Command Spokesperson Henry Okoye, the operation aligns with Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso’s ongoing strategy of utilizing intelligence-led policing to dismantle criminal networks.
Led by ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, police teams conducted a series of raids targeting those involved in kidnapping, murder, and cult-related activities. The operation resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, several locally manufactured guns, and ammunition. Authorities also seized two SUVs, three motorcycles, a generator, and various cult-affiliated items.
These actions follow a spike in criminal activity, including the abduction of bus passengers in Obokofia and a separate kidnapping in the state capital. By raiding a hideout in Ohaji/Egbema, police freed three hostages and arrested seven members of the gang. Among those detained were Eric John, Light Chukwuma Obinna, Sylvester Nnadike, Destiny Albert, and Caroline Oziomele. Investigators discovered that the gang had already extracted 5 million naira from victims and was demanding an additional 50 million naira.
In a separate operation in Owerri West, five members of the Senior Vikings Confraternity were captured during initiation activities that police linked to a recent homicide. Commissioner Bosso reiterated the force’s dedication to public safety and urged citizens to share information regarding criminal activity by contacting 0803 477 3600.
