The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has pushed the hearing of Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi’s lawsuit to July 28. Dr. Shinkafi is contesting his exclusion from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Zamfara North senatorial seat.
Justice Dikko Hassan scheduled the new date after reviewing arguments concerning various affidavits and motions submitted by the involved parties. The virtual proceeding addressed the ongoing conflict involving Dr. Shinkafi, the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Senator Sahabi Ya’u.
Dr. Shinkafi participated in the May 19 primary but was ultimately sidelined. He is now questioning the legitimacy of that process, claiming it breached the 2022 Electoral Act and the internal rules set by both INEC and the APC. His legal representative, Bello Galadi, stated that the election was marred by misconduct and altered results.
During the session, the court examined several motions, including a request for an extension of time to reply to opposition filings. While defense attorney Salauddeen requested a fine of N2 million against the plaintiff for alleged delays, the court denied this request, opting to grant the plaintiff additional time to file necessary responses.
