Aloy Ejimakor, the lead attorney for Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a legal warning following comments made by Chigozie Nnabugwu during a broadcast on News Central Television. Ejimakor stated that Nnabugwu suggested the federal government should kill the IPOB leader to restore stability in the South-East region.
The lawyer denounced the remarks, which were aired on July 19 and shared on social media, as reckless and unlawful. He emphasized that calling for the death of a citizen involved in ongoing legal proceedings undermines the rule of law. According to Ejimakor, these comments may violate Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes Act, which prohibits electronic messages that threaten lives or disturb public order.
Ejimakor also criticized News Central Television for broadcasting the statement. He argued that media outlets have a duty to avoid platforms that incite violence or promote illegal acts. He noted that such content could trigger regulatory consequences for broadcasters.
The legal team for Kanu is currently evaluating further actions, such as filing formal complaints with law enforcement and regulatory bodies. They have demanded a public retraction and apology, warning that failure to comply will lead to a lawsuit.
