The Bauchi State Police Command has taken 40-year-old Clement Anthony into custody regarding the death of a 55-year-old community figure. Anthony is accused of fatally shooting the man and possessing an illegal firearm within the Bauchi metropolis.
Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib stated that the incident was reported to the ‘A’ Division Police Station on July 19, 2026. A local resident informed authorities that Anthony used a single-barrel shotgun to shoot Jacob Bature, the Mai Anguwan Ngas, during a dispute.
Emergency responders transported Bature to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead due to a gunshot wound in his chest. His body remains at the facility’s mortuary while the investigation continues.
Officers successfully captured the suspect and seized the firearm along with an expended cartridge. The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive review before the suspect faces trial.
CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu expressed his disapproval of the violence and emphasized the police force’s dedication to justice. He also warned citizens against the illegal possession of weapons and encouraged the public to notify law enforcement of any suspicious behavior.
