A coalition of political organizations and local stakeholders in Ebonyi State has formally requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prolong the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process. Concerns have been raised that failure to extend the deadline could result in thousands of residents in rural areas being unable to vote.
The current nationwide registration phase is slated to finish on July 26, 2026. Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, the Ebonyi State Chairperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated in Abakaliki that an extension is vital since the general election is still several months away. She highlighted that many seniors and individuals in isolated regions have struggled to access registration centers.
Adibe-Nwafor also confirmed that the ADC has finalized the submission of its candidates for all elective positions, affirming that the opposition is fully prepared for the upcoming political cycle. Meanwhile, local entrepreneurs Fidelis Oge and Michael Igwe have called for the deployment of additional staff and equipment to underserved rural districts, noting that a lack of resources has hindered the registration process for many citizens.
