Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, representing the Ondo Central Senatorial District, has honored the late former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on the occasion of what would have been his 70th birthday. Adegbonmire characterized the former governor as an influential figure who stood out for his immense contributions, famously calling him a tree that nearly became a forest.
In an official statement, Adegbonmire referred to Akeredolu as the Amotekun Generalissimo. He highlighted the late leader’s bravery and dedication to justice, noting that these qualities secured his place in both state and national history. The senator emphasized Akeredolu’s commitment to constitutional democracy and his consistent protection of his constituents’ interests.
A significant portion of the tribute focused on the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as the Amotekun Corps. Adegbonmire cited this as a major legacy that transformed regional security and local policing efforts.
