Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has commented on his long-standing association with Ali Modu Sheriff, the former Governor of Borno State. Kwankwaso noted that their history dates back to the unsuccessful Third Republic.
These comments followed claims made by Sheriff suggesting the northern region would withhold support for the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regardless of Kwankwaso’s involvement. Appearing on the Monday broadcast of Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kwankwaso dismissed the remarks as insincere. He implied that Sheriff was simply attempting to gain favor with individuals at the Presidential Villa.
According to Kwankwaso, he maintains contact with both Sheriff and Bola Tinubu, who was also active during that political era. While he acknowledged his ongoing communication with them, he remained brief regarding the specifics of those discussions. Kwankwaso stated that he is familiar with their private conversations and remains convinced that the public criticism was merely performative.
