A severe fire destroyed the upper level of a three-storey apartment building situated on Ademola Taiwo Street in the Ketu-Ikosi district of Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the inferno was successfully contained through the combined efforts of the Tiger Squad and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Authorities determined that the fire originated from an electrical surge connected to a prepaid meter on the building’s front balcony. While working to contain the flames and prevent them from reaching a neighboring structure, two firefighters collapsed from exhaustion. They were quickly transported to the Trauma Centre by LASEMA and are currently reported to be in stable condition.
No residents suffered injuries or fatalities during the event. Currently, crews are conducting dampening-down procedures to ensure the site is secure. LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu praised the responders for their efficiency and advised citizens to prioritize the maintenance of electrical systems to prevent future accidents.
