The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that stability has returned to Osogbo following a violent confrontation between rival National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) groups on Monday. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the unrest.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, speaking for Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, explained that the conflict erupted when one faction accused another of blocking their access to a motor park. This disagreement escalated into a public demonstration and subsequent violence, prompting a rapid police intervention to restore order.
Security personnel remain stationed at transit hubs throughout the state to ensure public safety and prevent further disturbances. The police have strongly urged all involved parties to stop the fighting and utilize formal channels for dispute resolution.
Commissioner Gotan warned that individuals responsible for criminal behavior will face legal consequences. He also requested that residents remain calm, continue their daily activities, and refrain from sharing unverified reports that could incite fear. While there were allegations of gunfire between the groups, the official casualty count remains unconfirmed.
