Liverpool have successfully acquired attacking midfielder Mao Itamura from Feyenoord. The 19-year-old Japanese youth international joins Gareth Taylor’s team as the fifth summer recruit, filling the void left by Denise O’Sullivan’s loan departure to Gotham FC.
During the 2025-26 campaign, Itamura earned the Women’s Eredivisie player of the season title after contributing eight goals and six assists. Her influence was key to Feyenoord securing their first-ever European qualification. Furthermore, she played a pivotal role in the Japan Under-20 side that secured the Asian Cup in April.
Expressing her excitement, Itamura stated that joining a club of Liverpool’s stature was a long-term ambition. She will wear the number 26 jersey, joining fellow newcomers Vivien Endemann, Sara Agrez, Mari Ward, and Khiara Keating. Itamura previously played for JFA Academy Fukushima before her January 2025 move to the Netherlands.
