Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for the presidency, has alleged that Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, is cultivating a group of political radicals. Bwala claims that the former Anambra State governor consistently avoids accountability for the behavior of his followers. During an appearance on TVC’s Politics on Sunday, Bwala addressed his frequent critiques of the candidate, stating he only speaks out when media outlets request his response to remarks made by Obi’s supporters.
Dismissing the notion that he is preoccupied with Obi, Bwala insisted that the former governor is not a viable threat to President Bola Tinubu. He asserted that previous governors of Lagos have outperformed Obi, labeling him as inconsequential in the current political landscape. However, Bwala emphasized that Obi has brought a hazardous trend to national politics, comparing the conduct of some followers to that of bandits.
When pressed on this comparison, Bwala clarified that he views these supporters as political extremists. He pointed to an instance where an Obi follower faced intense online backlash for meeting Seyi Tinubu. Bwala argued that even though these supporters attacked their own, Obi blamed the opposition rather than taking responsibility for the incident. Bwala maintains that Obi habitually refuses to address the actions of his base, preferring to shift blame onto his political rivals.
