A 13-year-old boy lost his life and multiple others sustained injuries in Ciudad Rodrigo during public celebrations following Spain’s World Cup win. Local government officials confirmed the tragedy on Monday, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
The catastrophe occurred just after 12:30 am when a fountain structure gave way. Emergency responders reported that the weight of fans who had climbed onto the structure caused the collapse. While the boy tragically died at the scene, others were also treated for injuries resulting from the accident.
The municipality described the event as a celebration that turned into a heartbreak for the community. The crowd had gathered to mark Spain’s victory in the football tournament held at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026.
