Bandits have killed two travelers and abducted Alhaji Bashir Abara Gummi, the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), along with several others on the Funtua-Gusau Road.

Reports indicate that the bandits blocked the busy Funtua-Gusau Road on Sunday, October 20, 2024, and targeted multiple vehicles, including the one carrying the coordinator.

According to sources within the commission, Alhaji Gummi was en route to Abuja for an official assignment at the time of the incident.

A security source familiar with the situation stated that the bandits opened fire on several moving vehicles, resulting in the immediate deaths of two individuals before they kidnapped the coordinator and numerous other travelers.

“The bandits blocked the road and unfortunately, some vehicles fell victim to the kidnappers. They opened fire at the vehicles and abducted several travellers,” the source said.

It was reported that the Zamfara State Auditor General, Alhaji Abubakar Dan Maliki, narrowly escaped the bandits by managing to maneuver away from the scene of the kidnapping.

Sources indicate that the Auditor General arrived shortly after the initial vehicles were forcibly stopped by the bandits.

Upon witnessing the chaos unfold with other drivers, he quickly made a U-turn to avoid becoming a target himself.
