Two Elderly Men Arrested by NDLEA for Trafficking Drugs to Abia Students

NDLEA officers have taken two elderly men into custody for allegedly selling illicit drugs to students at secondary schools in Umuahia, Abia State.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 84-year-old Godfrey Orji and 75-year-old Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora for distributing prohibited substances to secondary school pupils in Umuahia, Abia State. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, confirmed that Obiora was detained on June 19, 2026, after investigators discovered 4.64 kilograms of tramadol and diazepam inside his patent medicine shop.

Separately, Orji, a retiree, was caught by security personnel at Saint Silas Secondary School in Old Umuahia while attempting to provide narcotics to two teenagers. These arrests followed reports that the men were supplying drugs to minors. A 15-year-old student admitted during questioning that he purchased these substances from Orji for personal use and resale to peers. The NDLEA intends to prosecute the suspects once investigations conclude, while the affected students will undergo rehabilitation and counseling.
