Wales head coach Steve Tandy expressed significant dissatisfaction after his team concluded their season with a heavy 43-0 defeat against South Africa. The Springboks dominated the Nations Championship match in Durban, keeping Wales scoreless once again, following a previous 73-0 loss last November.
While South Africa crossed the try line seven times through players including Jasper Wiese and Cobus Reinach, Tandy praised his team’s commitment. He noted that despite the lopsided score, the players remained competitive for significant portions of the match. Tandy acknowledged the physical challenge posed by the world champions and admitted that Wales lacked the necessary accuracy when scoring opportunities arose.
Wales co-captain Dewi Lake echoed the coach’s sentiments regarding the team’s effort. Although disappointed by the final outcome, Lake highlighted signs of growth compared to their previous meeting with the Springboks. He maintained that there is clear room for improvement, specifically regarding their inability to register points on the scoreboard, but expressed pride in the dedication shown by his teammates throughout the fixture.
