President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have highlighted the significant progress made in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, fifty years after its inception. During a ceremony marking the completion of 31 projects, the leaders lauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his performance. Representing the President, Senate President Godswill Akpabio noted that Wike has proven that leadership is defined by visible results rather than mere rhetoric. Tinubu described the capital as a symbol of unity and hope for all Nigerians.
Speaking for Vice President Shettima, Aliyu Modibbo, a former FCT minister, suggested that Wike’s tenure should extend beyond four years to fully realize his development goals. Modibbo predicted that Wike would remain in his role throughout a potential second term for the President.
Minister Wike attributed the recent achievements to a revitalized workforce, following the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the territory’s exemption from the Treasury Single Account. These changes allowed for better financing and staff motivation, resulting in the completion of numerous previously abandoned projects. Wike emphasized that 70 percent of the projects his administration finished were inherited, highlighting the government’s commitment to continuity.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, through Majority Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere, labeled Wike the best performing minister in the history of the capital. Additionally, Julius Berger Managing Director Dr. Peer Lubasch praised the infrastructure drive, noting that the current level of project completion is unprecedented in the history of the city.
