Governor Bago Declines to Investigate Former Niger State Leader Despite Possession of Records

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has stated he will not pursue an investigation into former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, prioritizing regional peace despite holding files on alleged previous misconduct.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced he will not initiate an investigation into his predecessor, Abubakar Sani Bello, even though he possesses documentation detailing alleged misconduct from the previous administration. During a visit to Kagara to address a recent communal conflict, Bago clarified that he is prioritizing state stability over political vendettas.

The governor noted that while he is aware of questionable actions and past dealings from Bello’s term, he rejects pressure from various factions to engage in a political confrontation. He emphasized his commitment to fostering peace across the state, contrasting his inclusive governance style with the internal divisions that plagued previous administrations led by Abdulkadir Kure, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, and Bello.

Addressing the recent defection of political figures to opposition parties like the African Democratic Congress, Bago dismissed the move as an attempt to serve personal agendas. He stated that these individuals would fail in their efforts to destabilize his government. Furthermore, Bago addressed allegations of interference in APC senatorial primaries, asserting that his focus remains entirely on maintaining order.

In a final warning, the governor addressed the spread of misinformation online. He confirmed that the Department of State Services has been instructed to track down individuals disseminating malicious propaganda and fake news, characterizing such actions as a threat to the state’s progress.
