Argentina star Lionel Messi has finally commented on the widely shared image from 2007 that depicts him washing Lamine Yamal when the Spanish winger was just an infant. At the time the snapshot was captured, Yamal was merely months old while Messi was still early in his tenure at Barcelona.
This image gained significant attention again in 2024 after Yamal’s father referred to the moment as the origin of two legendary careers. The pair is now set to compete against one another during Sunday’s World Cup final.
Reflecting on the coincidence, Messi remarked that it is incredible to reach a final against someone he held as a baby. He added that while he expects an entertaining match, he hopes Yamal and his team do not perform at their absolute best.
