A collective known as the Concerned Youth of Gombe South has formally requested that Prof. Ali Isa Pantami, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship nominee for Gombe State, appoint Barr. I.Y. Melah as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 election. The appeal was made in a public declaration released on Friday, signed by the group’s convener, Thomas Umar Likka, and Director of Information, Luka Elkana.
The organization praised Prof. Pantami’s successful candidacy while highlighting Melah’s qualifications. They pointed to his legal expertise, administrative background, and strong moral character as vital assets that would strengthen the ticket. The group emphasized that selecting a deputy is a decision that speaks to the future values of an administration rather than just a strategic political maneuver.
According to the statement, Melah is recognized for his dedication to community growth, mentorship, and principled leadership. His supporters believe his ability to connect with diverse ethnic, religious, and political groups makes him an ideal candidate to foster unity within the state. They further argue that his presence on the ballot would encourage youth, women, and professionals to participate more actively in the political process.
The group concluded that a partnership between Pantami and Melah would merge seasoned experience with youthful energy, ultimately broadening the campaign’s appeal. They have invited community leaders and stakeholders across the state to rally behind this call for Melah’s appointment.
