The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed serious concern regarding what it terms an appointment crisis within the Bola Tinubu administration. National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the National Assembly should investigate whether the President retains the capacity to effectively manage his office.
The party highlighted a troubling situation at the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), where an official reportedly remains in their position despite a public presidential order for their removal. The ADC argues that this defiance indicates a deeper power struggle within the executive branch, noting that this is not an isolated incident.
The statement referenced past issues, such as the emergence of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which operated within high-level government circles until allegations surfaced involving the President’s Chief of Staff. These events, according to the ADC, suggest the administration is losing its constitutional authority to appoint or dismiss officials.
Furthermore, the party criticized the government for a pattern of policy reversals, including the suspension of the Cybersecurity Levy and the Expatriate Employment Levy. The ADC contends that these frequent retreats have undermined public trust, confused the bureaucracy, and signaled a lack of consistent governance. Consequently, the party is calling for clear answers on who truly holds executive power, asserting that these issues are fundamental to the stability and integrity of the Nigerian state.
