Salihu Mohammed Lukman has officially suspended his membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its associated opposition coalition. He communicated this decision to ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, citing persistent hostility from former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his political allies regarding party operations in the state.
Lukman expressed that he could no longer endure the marginalization he experienced while attempting to build the party in Kaduna. Having dedicated over a year to uniting the opposition in the region, he stated that he felt pushed out by the current leadership dynamics. He noted that he prefers stepping back to remaining in a situation where his efforts are consistently undermined.
Beyond personal grievances, Lukman criticized the broader coalition for lacking genuine commitment to internal democracy. He suggested that certain coalition leaders are mirroring the problematic behaviors of the parties they originally set out to oppose. He specifically pointed to former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, claiming that Amaechi is prioritizing questionable political alliances in Kaduna over individuals who have invested significantly in the party’s foundation.
While Lukman remains critical of the local leadership, he maintained that his resignation is not a slight against the national leadership of the ADC. Currently, neither Nasir El-Rufai nor the party’s national office has issued an official statement in response to these allegations.
