Minister of Works, David Umahi, has formally requested that the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police facilitate an autopsy for the late Mary Habila prior to her burial. Represented by the firm Roy & Associates, the minister submitted a formal letter on July 15, 2026, to address the circumstances of her death.
Habila, an employee at the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences who was currently seconded to the Federal Ministry of Works, died on June 27, 2026. Her passing occurred within a staff residence situated on the minister’s property in Uburu, Ebonyi State. The legal team clarified that the minister did not live in that specific building, as it was reserved for his personnel.
Records indicate that only Habila and a physiotherapist were present in the dwelling on the night of the incident. To ensure an objective investigation, the legal team has petitioned for a thorough forensic examination. They have requested that authorities withhold the release of her remains to any parties until the autopsy and related investigations reach a definitive conclusion to prevent rumors and verify the cause of death.
