Police mandate autopsy for physiotherapist who died at Senator David Umahi’s home

The Ebonyi State Police Command maintains that an autopsy is necessary to investigate the death of Miss Mary Habila at Senator David Umahi’s residence, despite resistance from her family.

The Ebonyi State Police Command is moving forward with plans for a post-mortem examination into the passing of Miss Mary Habila, a physiotherapist who died at the Uburu residence of Works Minister Senator David Umahi. Initial reports indicate that Habila was part of a medical team assigned to the minister during his visit to his hometown.

SP Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson, confirmed that investigators have visited the site and gathered initial testimonies. The inquiry began after the Ohaozara Divisional Police Officer received a report of a medical emergency on June 27, 2026, leading to the discovery that the victim was deceased upon arrival at the David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital.

While the victim’s family has objected to the medical examination, the police maintain that a formal autopsy is required given the nature of the situation. The command has stated that the process will wait for family representatives to be present to ensure transparency. Authorities have promised a complete and neutral investigation, with further details to be shared as the case moves forward.
