Dewi Lake Retains Captaincy for Wales’ Final Test Against South Africa

Wales captain Dewi Lake is set to start against South Africa in Durban after overcoming an injury, with coach Steve Tandy making six personnel changes to the lineup.

Wales coach Steve Tandy has confirmed that captain Dewi Lake will lead the team against South Africa in Durban this Saturday, despite recent injury concerns. The hooker suffered an injury during last week’s loss to Argentina but has been passed fit after completing two training sessions.

The lineup features six changes from the previous match. Louis Rees-Zammit, Ben Thomas, Max Llewellyn, Dan Edwards, Teddy Williams, and Alex Mann are all included in the starting fifteen. In the second row, Freddie Thomas has been named on the bench as emergency cover following injuries to Ben Carter and Taine Plumtree.

Tommy Reffell returns to the squad for the first time this campaign to bolster the replacements, while Joe Hawkins and Reuben Morgan-Williams also feature among the substitutes. Tandy acknowledged the physical challenge posed by the world champion Springboks, emphasizing his team’s desire to display a competitive edge.

This fixture serves as the conclusion to Wales’ season. So far under Tandy, the team has secured one win and one loss in the current Nations Championship tournament.
