The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is pressing for a swift and open investigation regarding claims of sexual misconduct against a faculty member at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.
National President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez issued a statement after reports surfaced claiming the educator escaped through a window in a state of undress after being discovered with a female student. The organization emphasized that such behavior, if confirmed, represents a severe violation of professional standards and a major breach of trust.
NANS leadership praised the students who brought the matter to the attention of the Vice-Chancellor, promising full support to the affected student. The statement underscored that universities should be secure environments for students rather than locations for exploitation.
The association is urging university officials to conduct a transparent review and impose suitable penalties if the educator is found guilty. Furthermore, NANS demanded that the institution safeguard the student and other whistleblowers from potential retaliation. Finally, they called for stricter institutional policies regarding harassment to ensure campus safety remains a priority.
