Shearer Admits Argentina Deserved Victory Over England in 2026 World Cup Semifinal

Alan Shearer claims Argentina was the better team after their late 2-1 comeback victory ended England’s 2026 World Cup journey.

Alan Shearer, the former Newcastle United forward, stated that Argentina merited their victory over England, which secured them a spot in the 2026 World Cup final. The Three Lions surrendered their advantage during the second half, ultimately falling 2-1 to the reigning titleholders on Tuesday.

Anthony Gordon successfully converted a chance at the back post in the 55th minute to give England the initial lead. However, the tide turned when Enzo Fernandez leveled the score with five minutes remaining, followed by Lautaro Martinez, who headed in the decisive goal in stoppage time.

Speaking to BBC One, Shearer acknowledged that the superior side triumphed. He praised the Argentinian team for their composure and tactical discipline, noting that they hit the woodwork multiple times while England benefited from some fortune. Shearer highlighted that their tactical adjustments paid off, forcing him to admit that Argentina earned their place in Sunday’s final, regardless of the disappointment for England supporters.
