President Tinubu Set to Speak at UN General Assembly in September

President Bola Tinubu will attend the UN General Assembly in September to present his reform agenda and coordinate with international partners on West African border security.

President Bola Tinubu has confirmed he will participate in the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he plans to highlight Nigeria’s recent economic reforms. Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, confirmed the visit following a meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja.

During the session, President Tinubu intends to engage with the UN to discuss strengthening border security throughout West Africa, a region currently grappling with instability caused by porous frontiers. Ambassador Ibrahim noted that the President is prepared to prioritize regional border policing as a key area for international cooperation.

Beyond the main address, the President will attend specific side events focused on improving power generation, the education sector, and hospital administration. However, officials noted that they plan to manage his schedule carefully to avoid overcommitment.

Regarding the seating arrangements, Ambassador Ibrahim indicated that President Tinubu is positioned to sit near Donald Trump in the front row for the General Debate. The President’s official address is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. New York time, which translates to 2:00 p.m. in Nigeria, allowing for a prime-time broadcast to the domestic audience.
