Emergency responders in Kwara State managed to stop a fire from destroying a commercial complex in the Tanke district of Ilorin during the early hours of Wednesday. The state fire service received an emergency report at 2:19 a.m. regarding a fire at a multi-story building near the Terminus Motor Park on University Road.
Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the service, confirmed that crews reached the scene quickly to discover a building containing six shops and a kiosk already burning. The firefighters acted decisively, successfully confining the flames to a single kiosk and protecting all six shops from damage.
Initial findings suggest that a sudden power surge triggered the fire. Alabi Muhammed, the state fire director, praised the rescue team for their efficient performance. He also cautioned residents to hire certified electricians for all installations, turn off appliances when not in use, and install surge protectors to prevent future electrical hazards.
