Morecambe Football Club has received a formal warning notice from the independent football regulator (IFR). This action was taken because the club’s ownership failed to address multiple inquiries regarding the team’s operations. This marks the first time the IFR has exercised its authority since the Football Governance Act was enacted one year ago.
Specifically, club directors Kuljit Singh and Harjit Singh did not respond to two separate information requests mandated by section 65 of the Act. According to an official statement, the regulator has provisionally determined that these owners violated information requirements without a valid reason. Consequently, the IFR intends to issue a censure statement against both the owners and the organization.
A censure statement allows the regulator to publicly identify clubs, directors, or senior staff who fall short of licensing expectations. Should the situation escalate, the IFR possesses additional enforcement tools, such as the ability to impose financial penalties, seek court injunctions, or suspend a club’s operating license. Although Morecambe recently dropped down to the National League North, the regulator maintains full jurisdiction over the club.
The ownership group, known as the Panjab Warriors consortium, took control of Morecambe last August after purchasing the club out of administration. The club has faced several operational hurdles recently, including a temporary transfer embargo and a winding-up petition, both of which were resolved earlier this year.
