Police in Bauchi recover N5 million stolen from parked vehicle

Bauchi police arrested a man and recovered N5 million stolen from a car, returning the funds to the owner after a swift pursuit.

Law enforcement officials in Bauchi State have taken a suspect into custody following the theft of N5 million from a motorist. The funds were snatched shortly after the victim withdrew the cash from a bank located on Ahmadu Bello Way.

SP Nafiu Habib, the command spokesperson, stated that the incident began on Monday. After withdrawing the money, the 50-year-old victim drove to HD Plaza to shop. Upon returning to his vehicle, he found that thieves had forced their way inside using a fabricated key, shattering a window and damaging the door frame to access the cash stored within. The suspects attempted to flee in a Peugeot 406.

The victim chased the perpetrators while shouting for assistance. This immediate response forced the thieves to ditch both their getaway car and the stolen funds. Detectives eventually tracked down one suspect, identified as Abubakar Mustapha from Kano State, near Isa Yuguda House.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered a full-scale investigation to track down the remaining syndicate members. The recovered money has been returned to its owner. Authorities praised the victim and a helpful bystander for their role in the recovery, while urging residents to exercise caution and request police assistance when moving large amounts of currency.
