Kwara State Police have taken 16 individuals into custody for a range of offenses including conspiracy, kidnapping, abetting abduction, and attempted murder. Among these detainees are three teenagers, Ali Umaru, Alhaji Mosu, and Abacha Babagana, who face charges related to possession of suspected stolen goods. State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo explained that on July 20, 2026, officers confiscated numerous mobile phones and power banks from the minors during a routine check near the Oko-Olowo/Alapa area. These individuals were subsequently transferred to a juvenile correction facility.
Commissioner Ojo also highlighted the arrest of Aliyu Mohammed, who is linked to the July 15 abduction of Shekinat Mukaila in the Oro-Ago Kingdom. The victim’s father, the community leader, was injured during the raid but has since recovered at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Separately, authorities dismantled a kidnapping ring connected to the disappearance of 29-year-old Suleiman Rilwan. Following a confession by ringleader Jamiu Mohammed, police discovered the victim’s body in an abandoned well in Offa, leading to the apprehension of five additional accomplices.
Furthermore, five individuals were arrested for cult-related activities, while four others face charges of armed robbery and homicide. This latter group is suspected in the death of a man named Mohammadu A., who was killed on June 3 while searching for directions near a farm. His motorcycle and a substantial amount of cash were missing when his body was found. The commissioner confirmed that forensic investigations are ongoing for all these matters.
