Oshiomhole Criticizes Governor Makinde for Seeking UN Intervention in Oyo Kidnapping

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has condemned Governor Seyi Makinde’s request for a United Nations investigation into the kidnapping of students in Oyo State, labeling the move as an affront to Nigerian sovereignty and a political overreach.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents the Edo North Senatorial District, has formally opposed Governor Seyi Makinde’s request for the United Nations to examine the kidnapping and rescue of pupils and teachers in the Oriire region of Oyo State. Following the successful recovery of the victims by the Nigerian military, Governor Makinde suggested that an international investigation was necessary to address concerns that domestic agencies might not resolve.

During a session on Tuesday, Oshiomhole argued that the governor’s appeal to global entities undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty. The senator accused Makinde of allowing partisan interests to cloud his judgment, claiming the request diminishes the hard work of President Bola Tinubu and the security teams responsible for the operation. Oshiomhole urged his colleagues to reject the governor’s stance, noting that Nigerian forces have demonstrated the capability to secure the safe return of citizens without international oversight.
