The Benue State Police Command has verified a lethal assault by unidentified gunmen on the Ondo community within the Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area. The incident, which transpired early Tuesday, resulted in the death of the local youth chairman, Sunday Ogoh, and left the community traditional leader along with several residents suffering from injuries.
Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet reported that authorities were alerted to the situation via a distress call at 6:10 a.m. Following the report, law enforcement dispatched tactical units and senior officers to the scene to stabilize the area and initiate a search for the suspects. Additional support has been provided by the Civil Protection Guard, local vigilance groups, and other security partners.
Security forces are actively working to capture the perpetrators and have called on the public to remain composed. Authorities have requested that citizens share any relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation, promising further details as the situation develops.
