Law enforcement officials have secured an extension to interrogate individuals apprehended following a purported right-wing terror plot targeting an Islamic gathering in Suffolk. The UK Ijtima assembly, held at Shrubland Hall near Ipswich, was terminated prematurely on Sunday morning after Suffolk Police obtained intelligence regarding a credible danger.
Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) verified that a total of 12 people were taken into custody regarding suspected terror-related activities, conspiracy to commit murder, or aiding an offender. London Commander Helen Flanagan confirmed that authorities now have a window of up to seven days to question the eight suspects detained under the Terrorism Act. The remaining four individuals, arrested for different offenses, have been released on bail.
The event, designed for spiritual reflection for the Muslim community, began on Friday but was shuttered by 07:00 BST Sunday. Armed police assisted in evacuating approximately 15,000 international attendees and established road closures. Officials confirmed the investigation is focused on right-wing terrorism.
