Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has instructed traffic authorities to halt car racing within residential communities. This decision follows reports that such activities pose a significant risk to the public.
Addressing the issue during an interview in Abuja on Monday, Wike stated that although he had not received official grievances prior to the discussion, he intends to act immediately. He noted that while some drivers may be tempted to test the quality of the new roads, personal excitement should not jeopardize the safety of nearby residents.
Wike clarified that racing enthusiasts must confine their activities to officially approved areas rather than populated neighborhoods. He emphasized that individual freedoms are balanced by the necessity of public safety. However, the minister noted that this ban is limited to residential areas, meaning racing on public highways will remain unaffected by the new directive.
